Stories of God at Work in Unexpected Places

My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”  - Jesus  John 5:17

Do you ever get frustrated about the condition of the world we live in?

Do you sometimes think that evil is winning over good?

Do you wish that Jesus would return and end the madness?

There are times when God seems to be quiet and we don't see much evidence of people seeking a relationship with him. On the other hand our Scripture verse for this week states that He is always working even when we don't necessarily see the evidence. In the past week several stories of God at work have come to my attention. I will share a few of them with you. I hope your are encouraged by these stories.

  • In the area where we live several woman are becoming Jesus followers through the relationships they have with other women. These new Jesus followers are not yet part of the church but those who are interacting with them are asking for help with discipling them.

  • At Ohio State University between 800 and 1000 students attended a Christian service led by some of the stars of their football team. One player stated told the crowd that he had to come to terms with his brokenness which came about when he felt, "the weight, the love, the grace, the mercy of God wrap (him) in a blanket." Dozens of students and other attendees were baptized.

  • An Atheist shared a story on The Gospel of Love Instagram podcast about his one year old daughter who had some developmental problems which were confirmed by a doctor. On the way to a follow up visit with the doctor for more tests he prayed to God for the first time in his life. When he arrived at the doctor's office there was a homeless person outside. The Holy Spirt unmistakably spoke to the atheist and told him to ask this homeless person to pray for his daughter. He resisted and walked by but the sense that he needed to ask for prayer overwhelmed him so he went back and asked the homeless man if he would pray. This homeless person prayed for the atheist and healing for his daughter. The doctor examined her and declared that she was totally healed. This man is now a former atheist.

  • On August 23, Brad Arnold the lead singer with the rock band 3 Doors Down stopped their concert at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania to talk about his faith. Among the things he said was:

"You’ll always be enough for one reason. And that’s because Jesus Christ loves you,"
