How 50 Young Disciples Are Uniting a Community in Kenya

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."

Some pastors came up with the idea to begin the healing of discord by working with the youth. Simon (F4L Director in Kenya) was engaged to train the youth in how to do evangelism and discipleship. Fifty young people were sponsored by F4L The goal was to train the youth how to be disciple-makers and to use them to do outreach in the 25 wards of the county. These young people embraced the training and began to do what had been requested of them.

In only one year these young people have been successful beyond anything anyone could have predicted. They have changed the atmosphere in the whole community. Using the F4L discipleship material they have been able to unite the tribes in the area. Their work is so appreciated by the pastors and church leaders that Simon has been asked to also train the adults.

The impact the have had has even come to the attention of the chief of police. Nancy Mogera, the police chief said:

“We can be divided by our tribes, clans etc. but the Word of God puts us together as children of one God and Father of all of us.”

In her speech she also encouraged all people in the region to use the opportunity of studying the materials to bring this community together in unity. She thanked the leadership of Foundation for Living for what they are doing in this region.

This story from Kenya reminded me that Jesus choose teenagers and young men in their early twenties to be the original disciples. Their faith, efforts and teaching has resulted in over 2.4 billion people claiming to be Jesus followers. I wonder if God will raise up other teenagers in other regions of the world to accomplish great things for him?
