Called to Be Disciple-Makers Because of Jesus

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10

Why should I be a disciple-maker? The simple answer is because of Jesus.

A good word to describe reality at the beginning of time would by harmony.

  • People lived in harmony with God and enjoyed sweet fellowship with him.

  • People lived in harmony with creation and the land produced food for mankind and animals as well.

  • People lived in harmony with each other. An example is Adam and Eve who were naked and not ashamed.

  • Adam and Eve experienced harmony in their own persons as they were completely fulfilled in who God had made them to be and what God had assigned them to do.

One act of defiance and disobedience destroyed the harmony in creation and a new plan to restore harmony was initiated. I often wonder what the Trinitarian conversation was like when Father, Son, and Holy Spirit devised the plan through which harmony would be restored to creation.

Philippians 2 describes Jesus actions this way.

"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing  by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death
even death on a cross! "

The pain and suffering He endured is beyond our ability to comprehend. Even more astounding, He paid the price to redeem every person who ever lived from the time of creation to the end of the age. One sacrifice so pure that it was good for everyone everywhere.

In gratitude we can do nothing less than join him in his quest to make himself known to every person on earth. As disciples who become disciple-makers we join God in helping people everywhere get to know him, be forgiven, enjoy life as He intended, and to fulfill the purpose which he has for them.

Because Jesus is sufficient motivation, we become disciple-makers.
