Beyond Measure: The Unstoppable Love of Jesus
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
Humans are highly valued by God. So much so that Jesus was willing to demonstrate his great love for people by dying as a substitute so people would not have to be held accountable for their own sins. Good people, bad people, lovely people. unlovely people, friendly people, and obnoxious people all have the same problem, they are guilty of offending God. Every person who ever lived on earth (except one) has done things that violated God's standards or they have failed to do something they knew they should do. Even the most saintly people have had unhealthy thoughts that demonstrated an inner brokenness that necessitated the need to be forgiven. In short, all people are sinners and all people need a savior.
Jesus willingly chose a path that only He could choose to help people with their sin problem. The journey caused him excruciating pain and unimaginable suffering so that all the sins of all people for all time could be forgiven. He did this before there was any assurance that people would value his sacrifice or accept the wonderful gift they were given. From this deliberate act by Jesus it is undeniable that God values humans beyond measure.
Jesus gave his followers an assignment and an incredible opportunity. His followers (disciples) are invited to join him in helping people find their place in God's great story. When a person's life story intersects with the story of Jesus' sacrifice a most amazing transaction takes place. First comes the recognition that the person needs a Saviour, then an act of repentance follows and Jesus responds to the repentant person with forgiveness and forgetfulness for all the sins this person has done, be they thought, word or deed.
The disciple-makers mission is clear. Jesus not only gave us the assignment but He promised to go with us while we tell the story of what He has done to everyone whether they are across the street or around the world.
