Unlocking the Power of Discipleship
Our founder, Dick Driedger, often talked about the plethora of discipleship books on the market. In his research he discovered that most of the available resources teach "about" discipleship but very few teach how to "do" discipleship.
Church leaders everywhere identify the number one problem in the church today as the need for Jesus followers to be discipled. When church leaders speak about the need for discipleship they are generally expressing their desire that people in their churches be fully equipped to face life's challenges from a biblical world view and to be able to reach and disciple others within their sphere of influence. Genuinely and sincerely, church leaders are trying to address the discipleship issue through bible studies, small group gatherings and special events that focus on discipleship. All of these efforts are good, but worldwide we are not seeing the kind of impact one would expect from all these church based activities and efforts.
What is the Answer?
Simply stated it is to take the mystery out of discipleship and initiate a plan that equips and mobilizes every Jesus follower to be a disciple who is also a disciple-maker.
When F4L is invited to help with discipleship in a local church the goal is to help the church move from having no (or a limited) discipleship ministry, to a few small groups and ultimately for everyone in the church to be equipped and engaged in disciple-making.
A Three Pronged Approach
Help the church develop a strategy for the whole church to be engaged in disciple-making.
Provide easy to use materials where facilitators and participants grow together, and through observation, every participant is trained to be a facilitator.
Invite each person to be obedient to what God is saying to them and to personally apply what they are learning.
Equipped lay people who know how to share their faith and lead another person to Jesus and then to disciple that person become an unstoppable force in making disciples across the street and around the world.
