Two African leaders. One shared mission.

“Go and Make Disciples” Matthew 28:19a

I recently met two African leaders. Both of them are potential National Directors for F4L in their respective countries. What they shared with me is very encouraging.

One man lives in a country where about 1/2 of the people identify as Christians. However, as he observed what was happening in the churches across his country, and as he prayed for his country, he realized that the faith of many people was very surface level and the greatest need in the church is discipleship. He searched the web and discovered F4L. After digesting what he found on our website he realized this was the partner he needed to help reach and disciple the people in his country.

Another man from another country was also pleased to find out about F4L because, when he was called to ministry, God very directly called him to be a disciple-maker and that is now his passion.

Both these men know many people who have been introduced to a jesus who is not at all like the real Jesus. Unless people meet the real Jesus, they are not any better off than when they started searching for answers to the problems they face. Other people have a very surface kind of faith that is more of a hope that Jesus will make them healthy and wealthy. In these two countries there is a great need to disciple believers and equip them to follow through on what God asked all believers to do.

When Jesus rose from the dead, his first command to the disciples was to go and make disciples. From this we know that discipleship is not something that somebody just dreamed up. It is a command that Jesus gave to all of his followers everywhere and for all times.

There are two important aspects of the command to go and make disciples.

  1. Disciple-makers are sent under the authority of God.

  2. Jesus has promised to go with disciple-makers until He returns to establish his Kingdom.

Two more men from Africa are poised to join our team but let's not forget that we all have a responsibility to engage wherever we live.
